Paris is arguably the most romantic city in the world – wherever you go in the French capital love is truly in the air. For lovers everywhere it is the perfect break, from sipping coffee in one of its many cafes, to romantic strolls along the Seine, to the picture perfect neighbourhood of Montmartre not to mention the Champs Elysees and Eiffel Tower lit up at night – there are romantic overtones everywhere. So why not take some of that Parisian spirit and use it as inspiration for your wedding? Especially if you are lucky enough to have been proposed to there adding a taste of Paris to your wedding day is sure to make it incredibly romantic.
Why not choose Paris as a wedding destination?
Getting married abroad has become incredibly popular in recent years but instead of journeying to the Caribbean why not tie the knot in Paris?
With the Eurostar and direct flights to the French capital from most UK cities it’s incredibly easy to get there and is perfect if you want a small intimate wedding. However, it is worth bearing in mind that there may be a case language barrier and you should research the legal requirements of getting married in France.
Bring a taste of Paris to the UK
If, however, you would much rather tie the knot on home soil there are a number of ways you can bring Paris to the UK.
The key to getting a perfect Paris-inspired wedding is to go for chic and elegant yet boho touches. So make sure there are plenty of fresh flowers everywhere, smart table linen and individual elements to give it a personal touch. For example why not give your guests macaroons or bon bons as favours? For the colour scheme a muted palette of blushes and pastel shades seems to scream Parisian chic (think the colours of pretty macaroons in a patisserie and you won’t go far wrong). The beauty of a Paris-inspired wedding is it can be as eclectic as you like (just think of Montmartre’s electric vibe) but still be chic and sophisticated.
When it comes to food you have the gastronomy capital of the world as your inspiration so you could opt for dishes like onion soup and beef bourguignon, and gorgeous French cheeses, while for dessert you could take inspiration from the great patisseries in Paris with dishes like tarte au citron and choux pastry. However, it’s probably a good idea to not go too obvious and serve your guests snails and frog’s legs as not only is it a bit of stereotype but they may not appreciate it (unless of course they are your favourite dishes then serve away). For a truly Parisian touch instead of a fruit cake why not have a traditional French croque-en-bouche as your wedding cake? This desert will certainly have the wow factor at your celebration and the elaborate pile of choux buns will taste fab too.
Don’t forget the honeymoon
Of course if you are going to have a Paris-inspired wedding it would be rude not to honeymoon there and re-live your perfect romantic wedding day.
