Calcium and Phosphorous enable your bones to maintain their strength and Sodium and Potassium help to transmit nerve signals. If you do not have a healthy diet some of these functions will not work properly and this is what can begin to cause or contribute to illness. As well as that issue the quality of the food that you eat will also have effects on your body.
Each food has a calorific value. This is a number which represents the amount of energy that needs to be used in order to burn it off. Taking in the same amount of calories that you burn will ensure that you maintain a healthy weight which is good for your body as a whole. Too much or not enough of certain nutrients can increase the chance of health issues. For example not taking in enough Calcium can give you weakening of your bones. Too much saturated fat can cause heart problems. Not enough fruit and vegetables; it is now recommended that you eat 7 portions of fruit and vegetables a day, can lead to Cancer. One way to achieve 7 portions a day is to ensure you take 2 or 3 pieces of fruit with you daily to eat as you travel. Consuming a variety of foods of all of the right kinds is the best plan to maintain good health.
